Salvation

The Bible teaches that we can know for certain that we have eternal life (1 John 5:13).

Our problem

God created us all in His image (Genesis 1:26), but through Adam and Eve, all of mankind has a terminal condition called sin (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from God and requires His judgment upon us (Isaiah 59:2). No one can earn eternal life by their own efforts (Romans 3:20). The penalty for sin is eternal separation from God in hell (Romans 6:23, Matthew 25:41).

God's solution

The good news of the Bible is that God loves us (John 3:16) and has provided a way that we might receive eternal life as a free gift (Ephesians 2:8-9). He sent His only Son, Jesus, to earth, over 2000 years ago, to die on a cross as a payment for our sins (1 Peter 3:18). In Jesus, the very fullness of God dwelt in bodily form (Colossians 2:9). He offered His own life as a pure and righteous sacrifice to atone for our sins (Isaiah 53:4-6). He was crucified and arose from the dead three days later to prove He was the Son of God (Romans 1:4). He lives today to give eternal life as a free gift to all who would receive Him as Lord and Savior (John 10:28).

Our Response

How do we respond to this message? The Bible says we must first repent of our sin (Acts 2:38). Repent means to “change your mind” or “turn around”. This is coming face to face with the futility of your sinful condition apart from God’s grace.  Secondly, we place our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His death as full payment for our sin (2 Corinthians 5:21). Finally, we receive Christ into our lives as Lord and Savior (John 1:12).  Through this act of faith, God comes to dwell inside of us through the Person of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13) and we are born again (John 3:3). God declares us to be righteous as a free gift based upon the completed work of Jesus Christ and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in us (Romans 8:1-11).

The Bible says, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). Why not turn from your sin and call upon the Lord right now to give you this gift of eternal life?
